Originally, when deciding the topic in which I was going to choose for National History Day, I was strongly leaning towards the topic of Adolf Hitler. The evening after deciding my topic, I was discussing Adolf with my brother when the topic about Joseph Goebbels came up. He then recommended that I do Goebbels rather than Hitler. Not knowing whom this man was, I researched on the Internet and decided that I would pick him as my topic primarily because it was not taught in history class yet and this man is very unknown to a large amount of people.
To begin my research, I started off by looking in my school library. After searching for an hour and only finding fifteen pages on this man I turned to the Internet. There, I conducted week’s worth of research by looking at primary and secondary sources. These resources were things such as speeches, videos, websites, documentaries, and diary entries. I also spent a good amount of time looking up and translating many examples of Nazi propaganda.
Personally I choose the website category because I was working alone on this project. This way, I was able to work on it whenever I wanted rather than trying to fit a meeting into my schedule. I also choose to do a website on Goebbels because websites are very versatile as well as I am able to put many quotes from books, documents, diaries, speeches and videos on the website. Lastly, I choose to pick a website because I was able to design it in a manner that would fit to the theme as well as the topic.
Joseph Goebbels is a prime source of leadership and legacy due to his involvement with Adolf Hitler. Due to his great ways in manipulating the truth, Goebbels was assigned the leader of propaganda and enlightenment. From this point and onward, Goebbels enforced the belief that Jews were nuisances to society while still being able to present Hitler as a leader of power and not a cruel tyrant. Under this leadership, Joseph Goebbels was able to rally up thousands of people to destroy many un-German books that were thought to bring corruption to their society. Aside from the book burning on May 10, 1933, Goebbels directed the usage of Jews in Germany. He was able to put thousands of Jewish people into ghettos and concentration camps. In these areas many perished due to the harsh conditions as well as a lack of food. Without Joseph Goebbels’s impacts on Germany in the mid twentieth century, Germany wouldn’t be the same today.
